Abdelmalek Berhiss is a celebrated artist known for his elegant use of dots, reflecting the easiest form of creation, yet his precision is that of a far more sophisticated master.

Berhiss is able to transport the viewer into a dream-like hypnotizing state, where zoomorphique shapes and fantasmogical bestiaries reside. These complex compositions are reminiscent of stone engravings and recall the aboriginal artists of Australia. The surfaces of Berhiss’s work are covered in dots and lines in endless mystic repetition filled with delicate poesy, truth and meticulousness.

His unbelievable power of imagination creates a fantastic world that has neither top nor bottom and expands to infinity overflowing over the surfaces of the paintings and onto the frames. Self-taught, he has experimented with different mediums, such as carved out thuya roots painted sculptures and painted ceramics on top of painting.

He has been exhibited widely in Europe and Morocco and has most recently participated in Esoteric Writings, MACAAL, Marrakech (2018); Marrakech Biennale (2016); Biennale Internationale de Casablanca (2014 and 2016) and Artistas Singulares Marroquies, Museo Sa Bassa Blanca, Mallorca (2014).
